Can't find the Cymath app? Here is what to use.

The Cymath iPhone app is not on the App Store right now. The good news is that cymath.com still works.

Here is how to keep using Cymath on your iPhone, and which alternatives to try if you want an app instead.

Download on theApp Store

Disclosure: MathScans is our own app.

MathScans is one of the options below. It is paid and iPhone only, so if Cymath's website or a free app covers what you need, we say so first.

What happened to the Cymath app

On October 25, 2026, we searched for Cymath on the App Store in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. It was not listed in any of them, and its old App Store link returns a not found page.

We could not find an announcement about it. The website is still live, still sells Cymath Plus, and still links to the apps.

So the app may come back, or it may be listed somewhere we did not check. For now, if you search the App Store and find nothing, this is why.

What Cymath does well

Cymath is a step-by-step solver for algebra and calculus. You type the problem in, and it shows the working, not just the answer.

The free version is useful on its own. Cymath Plus, at $5 a month, removes ads and adds detailed explanations of how and why each step works, for most problems.

That focus on the reasoning is why people liked it. Any alternative worth switching to should explain the steps at least as well.

Keep using Cymath on your iPhone

If Cymath worked for you, you may not need to switch at all. The website has the same solver, and you can give it a Home Screen icon.

It takes about 30 seconds. After that, it opens like an app, without the Safari address bar getting in the way.

  1. 1Open Safari and go to cymath.com.
  2. 2Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. 3Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.
  4. 4Open Cymath from the new icon. It works like the website, because it is the website.

Typing or scanning: which suits you?

Typing is precise. You control exactly what the solver sees, which helps with long expressions where a camera might misread a bracket.

Scanning is faster for homework sheets. You point the camera, crop to one problem and skip the fiddly keyboard work with fractions and exponents.

If you liked Cymath because of the typing, Symbolab is the natural next step. If you found the typing slow, a camera app will feel like a big change for the better.

Cymath alternatives at a glance

The biggest choice is how you enter the problem. Cymath is built for typing, and some people prefer that.

Others would rather point a camera. Our comparison of the best math solver apps covers each of these in more depth.

What MathScans does differently

Point the camera instead of typing

Cymath asks you to type the problem in, which gets slow once there are fractions, exponents or roots.

MathScans reads the problem from a photo, printed or handwritten. It shows what it read at the top of the solution, so you can check it before trusting the steps.

The why behind each step

Cymath Plus adds explanations of how and why for most problems. That idea is the whole of MathScans.

Every step names what was done and says why it is allowed. You can set the Math level so the wording fits where you are in school.

Watch the step happen

A list of lines on a page shows the result of each step, not the move itself. MathScans can animate any solution, so you see terms cross the equals sign and cancel.

Turn on narration and each explanation is read aloud, in any of 19 languages.

Which one should you use?

If Cymath already works for you

Keep using cymath.com in Safari and add it to your Home Screen. Nothing about the website has changed, and it is free to use.

If you want the closest app to Cymath

Symbolab. It is built around typed input like Cymath, covers algebra through calculus, and has apps as well as a website.

If you want free steps from a photo

Photomath. Point the camera at the problem and the basic steps are free.

If you want every step explained, animated and read aloud

MathScans. It is paid, with a 3-day free trial on the monthly plan, and works on iPhone.

Cymath is not the only one

Math apps come and go. Google's Socratic is no longer available, and Microsoft Math Solver has been retired too.

If you used one of those, see our guides to Socratic alternatives and Microsoft Math Solver alternatives.

Whichever app you pick, test it on one problem from your own homework first. Check it read the problem correctly, then read the step you find hardest.

Questions about Cymath

Is Cymath still available?
The website is. cymath.com still solves problems with steps, and Cymath Plus is still offered there. When we checked on October 25, 2026, the Cymath iPhone app was not on the US, UK, Canadian or Australian App Store.
Has Cymath shut down?
We could not find any shutdown announcement, and the website still works. All we can say is that the iPhone app was not listed in the stores we checked. It may be back later, or listed in other countries.
Can I still use Cymath on my iPhone?
Yes, through Safari. Go to cymath.com, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. You get an icon that opens the website, which has the same solver as the app.
I already had the Cymath app installed. Will it keep working?
An app removed from the App Store usually stays on devices that already have it, but it stops getting updates. Whether it keeps working depends on Cymath's servers, so the website is the safer option.
How much is Cymath Plus?
Cymath's website lists Cymath Plus at $5 a month. It removes ads and adds detailed how and why explanations for most problems, plus bookmarks and history.
What is the best free alternative to Cymath?
For typing problems in, Symbolab. For pointing a camera at the problem, Photomath. Both show basic steps for free. Mathway's free version gives answers, with steps behind a subscription.
Is MathScans like Cymath?
Both show the steps and both explain the reasoning. The differences are input and format: MathScans reads a photo instead of typed text, and it can animate and narrate each solution. It is iPhone only and needs a subscription.
Does MathScans work for calculus like Cymath did?
Yes. MathScans covers algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus, including derivatives and integrals. For a closer look, see our calculus solver page.
Does MathScans have a website version?
No. MathScans is an iPhone app. If you need a solver in a browser, Cymath and Symbolab both have one.
How do I cancel a Cymath Plus subscription?
If you subscribed through the iPhone app, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and look for Cymath there. If you subscribed on cymath.com, cancel from your account on the website.
Can a photo solver read my handwriting?
Most can, if the writing is reasonably neat and the photo is well lit. Crop to one problem at a time and check that the app read it correctly before you rely on the steps.

Snap the problem. See why each step works.
